2010 has been designated the EU Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
There are four main objectives at the heart of this European Year:
- Recognising the right of people in poverty and social exclusion to live in dignity and to play a full part in society
- Increasing public ownership of social inclusion policies and emphasising everyone’s responsibility in tackling poverty and marginalisation
- Creating a more cohesive society where no one doubts that society, as a whole, benefits from the eradication of poverty
Generating commitment among all sectors of society

- Showcase best practice
- Highlight social inclusion initiatives within the County
- Bring many strands of community life together
- Link the different aspects of active citizenship through raising awareness, increasing participation and encouraging people to engage in the community
During Social Inclusion Week, citizens of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown will have the chance to experience a local celebration of the great work being undertaken in your county. It is an opportunity to see what groups are doing, to improve the quality of life of people living in the County.
There are over 70 events taking place during Social Inclusion Week 2010. These events are all listed in the Calendar of Events.

During Social Inclusion Week 2010 (Saturday October 16 to Saturday October 23) you have the opportunity to register FREE OF CHARGE for an Outdoor Exercise Class!
Details as follows:

Vincent Browne will formally launch the Social Inclusion Week programme on Monday 11 October and then the Council’s second annual county-wide Social Inclusion Week programme kicks off on Saturday, 16 October… with over 70 events taking place there are certainly things that you will all enjoy!
